About Mike

Mike was one of the most active and prolific concert photographers on the music scene in Cleveland, Ohio from 1974-1983. During this period, he attended over 200 concerts, photographed over 100 bands and compiled a catalog of over 15,000 color concert photos. His collection includes over 50 current Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees.

Mike captured the essence of Rock and Roll with his photographs while creating his own style as a concert photographer. He lived the rock and roll lifestyle to its' fullest. He worked at record stores during the day where he enhanced his reputation as a concert photographer and was well known as a rock trivia expert. He also photographed dozens of artists during in-store promotional appearances at these record venues. He often exhibited and sold his concert photos at record conventions and street fairs. If there was a music-oriented event happening, you would most likely run into Mike.

Concert photography was very challenging in the 1970’s and 80’s. The available color film was not highly conducive to the low light conditions present during these shows. Adding to the difficulty is the typical chaotic atmosphere of a rock concert, making a photographer’s ability to capture in-focus and properly framed images very difficult. As you will see from his images, Mike was up to the challenge. He also believed it was important to shoot and experience a concert from the viewpoint of the audience. Fortunately, he had the unique ability to choose his seat based on where he would have the best position to photograph a given band. Hero shots from the pit area can be impressive, but Mike preferred to shoot from the floor.

During these active years, his photographs were published in numerous books and magazines. Hard Rock Cafe has purchased a quantity of his photos which are displayed in their locations worldwide. He was a regular contributor to Rockline magazine as well as a house photographer for the Richfield Coliseum, Cleveland's largest indoor concert venue.

With the passage of time came the realization that Mike's archive is most likely the largest collection of high-quality color concert photos shot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame city during this timeframe, a timeframe where the greatest Rock and Roll artists were IN THEIR PRIME!  This period has been called the Golden Age of Rock and Roll. Mike has documented this great era with his iconic images. His passion for music and love of these legendary bands shines through in his photographs.

This site is for the purpose of showcasing Mike's collection of concert photos. Although this is a small sampling of his work, it is representative of his artistry.
